Recent Artwork
Hello. Welcome to my new site, blah blah blah.

I used to draw a lot. All the time, every day. But somewhere over the past several years I stopped, and I pretty much forgot how. I'm trying to remind myself how to draw, and find that momentum again. That is what this site is about. This is also a place for me to post any kind of artwork that is done solely for myself and not for clients, something else I am trying to do more of...

I've posted a small selection of past artwork, and will be adding *new* things here on a fairly regular basis... I'm already holding my breath, are you holding yours?

I just finished this collage, using my old high school yearbooks and photos of raw meat. It's the biggest non-digital piece of 'artwork' I've ever done, measuring 25 x 44"!

If you find yourself in Chicago tomorrow, I suggest you attend the opening of Mr. Garrett's OUTDATED show to commemorate the Death of Polaroid Instant Film.

OUTDATED
Polaroid art show
August 15th - 16th, 2008
7pm until midnight
Country Club Chicago
1100 N Damen Ave
Chicago, IL 60622

After sixty years, Polaroid Corporation has announced that it is discontinuing the production of all instant films. OUTDATED is a two day long exhibition of 900 Polaroid instant photographs by 150 Polaroid enthusiasts.

While many contributors are from the Chicago area, others are from all over the United States and other locations such as Canada, Spain, the United Kingdom, France and Turkey.  People around the world expressed both their love of Polaroid films and their sadness regarding their discontinuation.

The subject matter of pieces in the OUTDATED show run the gamut – quirky, cute, foreboding, sexy, and intense.  Likewise, techniques employed cover everything from simple snapshots to elaborate collages.  Also included are various experimental approaches such as Polaroid transfers, emulsion lifts, and photographs that have been subjected to microwaves.

OUTDATED is curated and organized by Rik Garrett, a photographer and longtime Polaroid enthusiast.  Finding himself distraught over the impending loss of his favorite media and wondering why nobody else was arranging a large scale show of Polaroid works, Garrett decided to simply do it himself.

Almost everything I can remember drawing has been pretty meticulously sketched and planned and plotted out in advance. This was the first time in years I've just drawn with no plan, following the stream of consciousness. I think it looks sorta like a Chinese Dragon. This one is also going to become mail art.

First time I've picked up the colored pencils in well over a year, I s
cribbled this whilst watching the funniest show currently on television tonight. I think I'm gonna make it into a postcard and mail it to a friend, after hitting it with some glow-in-the-dark paint...
